Hispanic/Latino Education Forum; RIYP members teams up once again with the Urban Education Task Force, convened by Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri, Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University, Nellie Mae Education Foundation and the cities of Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls to bring together Hispanic/Latino residents and education stakeholders to help inform Governor Donald Carcieri’s Urban Education Task Force about the best solutions for the state’s urban public schools.

Satruday, April 18th 2009 from 10:00am -2:00pm at PAIS school located at 182 Thurbers Avenue, Providence, RI 02905.

NSBE WALK FOR EDUCATION EVENT
On Saturday, April 25th, 2009 in collaboration with the Rhode Island Young Professionals (RIYP), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) chapter at the University of Rhode Island is hosting a community service event titled “A Walk for Education” in the South Providence Neighborhood and the surrounding areas. The goal of this activity is to increase awareness of the educational opportunities available to our community by passing out pertinent educational information to the community.

The walk will begin at the Providence Academy of International Studies (PAIS) High School located on Thurbers Avenue at 9AM. We are requesting all local universities, colleges and private scholarship foundations to provide information to be passed out about educational and scholarship opportunities.

NULYP NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE: Annual Youth Financial Fitness. The Rhode Island Young Professionals held its 6th Annual Youth Financial Fitness on Friday, 15 2009. Students enrolled in grades 6 through 12 and their families are invited to attend the workshop entitled “What is the cost of Cool?” to teach students on the importance of basic budgeting and smart spending habits.

RIYP 2nd Annual “The Key to the City” Recognition Social

Taking place Tuesday, May 19th from 6:30pm – 9:00pm Location TBA: Providence, RI. RIYP. Complimentary appetizers and drink specials for all attendees.

RIYP WORKSHOPS:

LIFESPAN PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOPS RIYP is pleased to offer, in conjunction with Lifespan and its Leadership Development Center (LDC), professional workshops. These workshops will be exclusively for RIYP members only. The LDC will offer three separate one-on-one sessions to fit your needs: Presentation Skills, Performance Management, and Job Interview w/ Resume Critiquing. Presentation Skills will allow you an opportunity to practice and improve your speaking and presentation skills while integrating PowerPoint and other visual aids so you can receive specific suggestions for improvement.
